Video Games Vs Movies, How Can You Compare Them
Video games vs movies, is this valid? Indeed, the video game industry has taken a big junk out of the movie industry. Is the movie industry a bit desperate these days as video games become more and more like movies? I think so. Have we seen the last of the the sliver screens days?
Is Hollywood doomed? Whats your thing? If it was video games vs movies, which one would you choose? What I love about Call Of Duty Modern Warfare is that you feel like you are your own movie hero saving the world from doom. Video games give you power over the story itself. Now video games give me a feeling of power and excitement and that is hard to resist?
The dilemma for the movie industry is that a lot of games gives the player hours if not hundreds of hours of game play. So when do the gamers have time to go to a movie?
But all is not lost for the movies. Look at is this way: when movies came out back in the day, people actually thought that would be the end of reading. Again, when TV came out, guess what, people thought that would be the end of the silver screen, over sixty years ago. So again when video games began that was supposed to spell the end of TV. Video games have been around since the 70ties.
No, the world never came to an end. Why? I don’t think its surprising that the more people have the more people want. That’s why Mall developers try and cram in as many stores as possible, and if another mall opens in the same area, that’s great! More stores means more costumers.
It boils down to this: video games vs movies, is an impossible comparison because they are two different things. Video games are active, movies are more passive.
They both offer different experiences, for different times of day and moods. I don’t like being active all of the time. Playing video games is becoming like sports. Traditionally movies are passive experiences, the light is reflected from the movie screen into your eyes, like the moon light. Movies are a chance to sit back relax and enjoy a story, like in the days of yore when we would sit under the moon light and tell a story. What does a video game offer, active participation where I can be a winner, a hero.
Now the real problem is not that video games are better than movies, its getting those gamers into the cinema again, and the way they do this by creating gimmicks like real 3D, or combining the film concept with a video game release. I think the real trouble is in the cinema itself. With VOD fewer and fewer people frequent the theaters. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best movie style video games of all time.
