Value Of Peace Silver Dollars
Minted between 1921 and 1928, and again between 1934 and 1935, the Peace Dollar was the final silver dollar minted within the United States.
Peace silver [dollars] are interesting cash with a narrative behind them. The cash where designed to help symbolize the longing within the nation, which was simply pulling out of World Warfare I. The war was long and the loss was great. Individuals simply wished peace, which is why the Peace coin was in style during its early creation.
Why The Cash Were Created
While public sentiment was a strong motivating factor for the creation of the peace silver [dollars], it was not the one cause they had been created. In 1918, a novel regulation, referred to as the Pittman Act was established. In short, the regulation required that the government to melt as much as 350 million silver dollars. Then, it had to be transformed to bullion and sold or used to product subsidiary silver coinage. The legislation was geared toward serving to the silver mining industry greater than anything else. The Mint did melt 270 million silver dollars. Many of these had been sold in bullion form to the British government which required the funds to help them to manage a crisis taking place in India.
Interestingly, there was no use for the coins to be minted at all. The cash had grown out of favor normally commerce sectors. No silver [dollars] had been minted since 1904 because of the shortage of need for them. Still, the federal government needed to create them because the Pittman law required it.
By 1921, the price of silver had fallen considerably and the coins, at first just the older Morgan silver [dollars], began to be produced. The numbers produced were file breaking, with greater than 86 million examples minted in one year.
The Creation Of The Peace
The Morgan silver dollar had been used nicely over the required 25 years required by regulation, so there was no required legislation required to switch the coin with a brand new design.
